Father Serra Junipero planted the first red wine grapes in California in 1779.
Less than a century later in 1850, Col. A.E. Maxcy planted vines on what is now part of Rancho Guejito and became one of the leading producers of wine in Southern California by the turn of the century. Though the original grapes are gone, our red wines pay hommage to the incredible history of California and the ranch.

The long-awaited return of our popular red blend! La Linterna showcases dried black cherry, poached strawberries, and a hint of fresh black plum fruits followed by a touch of balsamic. Floral notes of hibiscus, red roses, and violets blend with clay-like earth tones. Cedar, black pepper, and a touch of clove spice linger in the finish.
A beautiful ruby color: on the nose, the glass is pretty and perfumed. Red fruits mingle with a medley of darker fruits. Dried cranberry, ripe black cherry, blackberries, and dried red plums are framed by aromatic red florals. Fresh ground pink peppercorn and subtle wet earth tones are more persistent on the palate than the nose. The wine finishes with a touch of barrel and spice. This wine has structure, and it can age or be enjoyed youthfully.
Plummy purple core color with a lighter ruby rim. This delicate Mourvèdre is bright and fresh. On the nose the wines boasts generous spring berries, ripe strawberries, raspberry, and nectarine skin. Lilac, jasmine, and gravelly sand mineral tones with a hint of fresh tarragon. Freshly ground pink peppercorn and bold fruit translate to the palate well. The wine finishes crisp and fruity, perfect with a chill.
With a delicate nose and palate, this varietal also offers bold ripeness, as the most densely fruited expression of Terret Noir than all previous vintages. Rainier cherry, dried strawberry paste, pink rose, tarragon, anise, and orange glaze on the nose. The palate contrasts loamy earth and herbal tealeaf-like qualities with fruit and fresh, wild herbs. A crisp and dry finish, with a lingering ripe red cherry and candied fruit notes, followed by a reminder of brewed oolong tealeaf. The wine is incredible served with a chill.
Just ripe mulberries, blackberries, and macerated blueberries combine on the nose for a medley of wild blue and black fruits. Blooms of violets and lilacs are loudly present as well. Crushed white pepper and thyme leaf add complexity. Toasted dark brown sugar, funnel cake, and cedar elements are integrated well into the nose and palate. This Syrah finishes long with abundant peppery dark fruits, reminiscent of pie filling. Toasty barrel tones linger in the finish, rounding off this show-stopping vintage.
